Laizure | Newborn

Exactly 5 weeks ago I had an injury where I tore a tendon in my right foot and sprained my left ankle. In the past 5 weeks I’ve had to cancel 8 shoots as well as my nannying job because I was unable to walk at all for 2 of those weeks! Those first weeks were the hardest… having to let down clients wasn’t easy, but it was the only option I had since I was scooting around my house in a desk chair unable to stand on my own… haha. I can laugh now, because I’m able to walk again! ;) After not walking for 2 weeks, I graduated to crutches and a walker, but still hadn’t left my house at all until I was able to walk (with tennis shoes on) with a limp. But even then, I’ve been trying to stay home and rest as much as I could! :) Even thought I wasn’t loving it at first, I’m thankful for the forced rest that this circumstance made me have… and I’m thankful that it’s still healing a little bit everyday! :)

I say all of that to talk about how this newborn session is the only shoot I’ve had in the past 5 weeks! And if little Zeke was born a week earlier, while I was not able to walk or stand at all, I wouldn’t have had this opportunity! I was just starting to limp around while still using a crutch every once in a while, and was able to visit my amazing and lovely friends in the hospital right after they had their baby! I figured there was no safer place for me to try shooting again after my injury than in a hospital! ;) It was hard and it was exhausting, simply because I was still in the early stages of healing, but I’m glad I was able to go! Sure, I needed sitting breaks in-between shooting for 5 minutes at a time… and I cried because it was my first time out of the house since the injury happened 2 1/2 weeks early and I was unexpectedly emotional about it. Haha. But my friends were more than understanding, and that helped make it all much easier! :) Then the next week, I went to their home to take a few more photos of them as a beautiful family loving on their newest addition!!! :) I still needed a few sitting breaks then too, but not as much. ;)

I’m not 100% back to how my feet were before, they still hurt when I’ve been walking or standing for a while, but I’m well enough to leave TOMORROW for my Seattle adventure!!! I just have to have a little bit more patience with myself for the next few weeks! ;)
